Personal Network<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">The smallest and most basic type of network, a PAN, consists of a wireless modem, a computer or two, telephones, printers, tablets, etc., and is organized around of a person in a building.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">These types of networks are typically located in small offices or residences and are managed by a person or organization from a single device.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"notranslate\">2.<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">Local Network<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">(LAN)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">We are convinced that you have already heard of these types of networks &#8211; local networks are the most discussed networks, one of the most common, the most original and the simplest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/translate?hl=fr&amp;prev=_t&amp;sl=fr&amp;tl=en&amp;u=https:\/\/avengering.com\/lan-wan\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">Local networks<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0 <span class=\"notranslate\">connect groups of computers and low-voltage devices over short distances (in a building or between two or three buildings close to each other) to share information and resources.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"notranslate\">Companies generally manage and maintain local networks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">Larger than local networks, but smaller than metropolitan networks (MAN, explained below), these types of networks are typically used in universities, large school districts or small businesses.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">They can be spread across multiple buildings close enough to each other to allow users to share resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">5.<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">Metropolitan Network (MAN)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">These types of networks are larger than local area networks but smaller than wide area networks &#8211; and include elements from both types of networks.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\">MANs\u00a0 cover a whole geographical area (typically a city or campus, sometimes).<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">Ownership and maintenance are managed by one person or company (local council, large company, etc.).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">6.<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">Wide Area Network (WAN)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">Slightly more complex than a<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Local_area_network\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">LAN<\/span>\u00a0<\/a><\/span>, a<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WAN\">WAN<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/a>connects computers to each other over longer physical distances.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">This allows computers and low voltage devices to be connected to each other remotely over a large network to communicate even when they are distant from each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">The Internet is the simplest example of a<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>WAN<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>network<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">,<\/span> connecting all the computers around the world.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">Due to the extended reach of the WAN, it is generally owned and managed by multiple administrators or the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">7.<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;\">Storage Area Network (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Storage_area_network\">SAN<\/a>)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">As a dedicated broadband network that connects shared pools of storage devices to multiple servers, these types of networks do not rely on a local or wide area network.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">Instead, they move storage resources away from the network and place them in their own high-performance network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">SANs can be accessed in the same way as a drive connected to a server.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">Types of storage area networks include converged, virtual, and unified SANs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">8.<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>System<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>network (also called SAN)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">This term is relatively new in the last two decades.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">It is used to explain a relatively local network designed to provide a high-speed connection in server-to-server applications (clustered environments), storage networks (also called &#8220;SANs&#8221;), and processor-to-processor applications.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\">Computers connected to a SAN operate as a single system at very high speeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; text-align: start; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span class=\"notranslate\">9.<\/span><span class=\"notranslate\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>Passive Optical Local Network<span style=\"font-size: 13.5pt;\">\u00a0<\/span>(POLAN)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal;
